Volleyball Signs Maryland Standout

Nov. 9, 2000

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson head volleyball coach Jolene Jordan Hoover announced the signing of a Maryland prep standout to a National Letter of Intent. Lori Ashton of Waldorf, MD, will join the Tiger team in August 2001.

“We are very excited that Lori has chosen Clemson,” said Coach Hoover. “She is a tremendous athlete, a great student and a great person. I think she is going to fit in very well with the team.”

Ashton, a 6-2 middle hitter, is a tri-sport athlete who was an all-county and all-conference honoree in volleyball and track. Ashton has lettered in volleyball, basketball and track during her high school career. She was the 1999-2000 Maryland state champion in the long jump and was named to the SMAC first team in volleyball, the high jump and the long jump. Ashton was the 1999 All-County Player of the Year in volleyball and in track and was named Honorable Mention All-Met in those sports. Her McDonough High School volleyball team was ranked second in the metro area by the Washington Post and is currently second in the state entering the playoffs.
