Volleyball Falls 3-1 Against North Carolina

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson volleyball team fell, 3-1 (15-25, 25-23, 19-25, 16-25), to North Carolina in the Tigers’ second ACC home match of the season in Jervey Gym Friday evening. Clemson, now 5-10 on the season, was led by Chapel Hill, N.C., native Annie Carter, who posted team-highs in kills (10) and hitting percentage (.348).

The Tigers dropped the first set, 15-25, but turned it around in the second, despite going down, 3-1, early. A kill by Carter put junior setter Caroline Pearson behind the service line, where the Tigers were able to tally five straight points to take an early 7-3 lead. North Carolina made a push late in the second set, tying the match at 21-21. Clemson collected themselves, putting together three straight points, and went on to take the set, 25-23.

Coming out of the break the Tigers could not find their rhythm as the Tar Heels hit .458 and .385, respectively, in the final two sets of the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Kaylin Korte posted 13 digs on the night, her third-highest mark of the season. Junior middle blocker Megan McGinley tied her season high of five blocks, one of which was the second-set winning point for the Tigers, for the third time this season.

Up next, Clemson hosts NC State (8-6, 3-0 ACC) Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. in Jervey Gym. The Wolfpack downed Georgia Tech, 3-1, in Atlanta, Ga., Friday night. Sunday’s contest against the NC State will stream on ACC Network Extra. Live stats can be accessed at clemsontigers.com.
