UVa Women’s Tennis Sweeps Clemson 7-0

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The 54th-ranked Virgnia women’s tennis swept Clemson 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, VA. The Tigers fall to 7-9 overall and 0-3 in the ACC while the Cavaliers improve to 12-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The Cavaliers won all six singles matches en route to the win over the Tigers. At one singles, Clemson’s Anna Savitskaya lost a three-set match, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, to Virginia’s Amy O’Donnell. Henriette Williams defeated the Tigers’ second-seeded Christina Oldock 7-6, 6-3, while UVa’s Christie Scweer defeated Milena Stanoycheva 6-3, 6-4 at three singles. In two more three-set matches, Virginia’s Laura James defeated Laurenece Jayet 1-6, 6-2, 6-4, at four singles and Ana Stiglic lost 6-2, 7-5, 6-3, to the Cavaliers’ fifth-seeded Jennifer Tuchband. Kelly Weaver completed Virginia’s singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Anna Dolinska at the six slot.

Virginia also won two out of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Virginia’s Schweer and Williams defeated Jayet and Dolinska 8-4 at one singles while the Cavaliers’ second-seeded team of O’Donnell and Kim defeated Oldock and Stiglic 8-6. The Tigers won at number three doubles as Stanoycheva and Savitskaya defeated Tuchband and Weaver 8-6.

Clemson continues ACC play as the Tigers travel to the University of Maryland for an 11:30 a.m. match on Sunday.
