Two Clemson Players To Play At MCC Collegiate Clay Courts Tournament

Sept. 13, 2007

CLEMSON, SC – Women’s tennis players Estefania Balda and Laurianne Henry will participate in the MCC Collegiate Clay Courts tournament this weekend in Montgomery, AL. The three-day event is schedule to begin on Friday, Sept. 14.

Balda returns for her second year at Clemson but 2007 will be her first fall season as she enrolled last January. The native of Guayaquil, Ecuador compiled a 16-8 dual match record and went 7-3 against ACC opponents, playing primarily at the flight three position. She was ranked #58 in the ITA Preseason Singles poll released earlier this month.

Henry will be making her debut as a Clemson Tiger this weekend after an impressive junior career. The local talent from nearby Anderson, SC was a blue-chip recruit who was rated as high as #11 in the nation last year. She won the Bullfrog Southern Championship last April, upsetting the nation’s #6-ranked player in the semifinals.
