Two Clemson Boats Win Races At SIRA

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Five Clemson boats advanced to the finals of the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships at Oak Ridge, TN on Saturday. The Clemson results included a victorious Varsity 8 and Junior Varsity 8 boats. The competition concludes with the championship races on Sunday. The Lady Tigers are ranked 17th in the nation heading into this week’s competition.

Clemson’s Varsity 8, under the direction of Head Coach Susie Lueck, finished first in its semifinal heat and will compete in Sunday’s final against Tulsa, Tennessee, Duke, Kansas State and Miami (FL). Clemson won its race on Saturday with a time of 6:57.86, defeating second-place Miami (FL), who posted a 7:03.04 mark.

Clemson’s Novice 8 finished second in its semifinal heat in a time of 7:28.74. Purdue defeated the Lady Tigers by just 0.61 in that race. Clemson won its heat in the Junior Varsity 8 with a time of 7:10.28, a full five seconds faster than the team from North Carolina.

Clemson’s Varsity 4 finished third in its semifinal heat with a time of 7:29.80. Jacksonville was first and Duke second. Clemson’s Freshman 4 boat placed fourth in its race with a time of 9:33.06.

News
