Twenty-two Football Newcomers Report to Clemson

August 5, 1998

Clemson, SC – Clemson Head Coach Tommy West welcomed 22 scholarship newcomers to the Clemson campus on Wednesday. The Tiger freshmen will open practice on Friday at the Jervey Athletic Center. The 22 players are from six different states.

“The class reported in good shape and is ready to make a contribution to this football program,” said West. “It was a big day for this class, especially the 15 who were moving onto campus for the first time. We had seven freshmen report for the second session of summer school, so they have been here working out since the first of July.

“We are all anxious to get started on the practice field on Friday.” The freshmen will practice twice on Friday and Saturday and once on Sunday before the veterans report on Sunday evening. Practice for the entire team begins Tuesday, August 11th. Two-a-day practices will continue until the start of school on August 20th.

West expects two junior college players, Telly Irby and Warren Lott, to join the newcomers when they have completed their course work at their respective JCs.
