Twenty-Seven First-Year Players Report at Clemson

Twenty-Seven First-Year Players Report at Clemson

Aug. 6, 2001

Clemson, SC – Clemson Head Coach Tommy Bowden welcomed 23 signees and four walk-ons to campus on Sunday afternoon. The Tiger rookies will open practice on Monday at 10:00 AM. The new players will also practice at 4:45 PM on Monday. They will have two more practices on Tuesday, then have an academic day on Wednesday. The Clemson varsity reports on August 9th and the first day of practice for the entire squad will take place on the morning of August 10th.

“This is a large class and a lot of them have a chance to contribute right away,” said Bowden. “Last year we had a small class report (just 12 first-year freshmen in Clemson’s class a year ago at this time.). Obviously the receivers and defensive linemen in this class will get a strong look early because that is the area where we have some openings. I am anxious to see them on the practice field on Monday morning.”

In addition to the signees listed below, four walk-ons reported on Sunday. They are Steve Creed, a center from Myrtle Beach, SC, Phillip Dieckmann, an offensive lineman from Lexington, SC, Nigel Vaughn, a linebacker from Atlanta, GA and Scott Wade, a linebacker from Columbia, SC. Vaughn is the brother of Clemson starting defensive end Khaleed Vaughn. Wade is a transfer from the United States Naval Academy.
