Training Like Champions

Training Like Champions

The Clemson men’s tennis has one goal in mind – championships. What better way to win championships than by training with a championship trainer?

That’s exactly what the Tigers did earlier this morning, and all this week, by welcoming Pat Etcheberry to campus. Etcheberry is an internationally recognized trainer who has trained former tennis greats like Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and Justine Henin.

Etcheberry’s results speak for themselves. His long list of notable clients, including Virginia, last season’s men’s tennis national champion, speak to his knowledge of the game and what it takes to be successful.

The Tigers took part in core exercises, fitness training and, through all the grueling sessions, team building.

Some more of Etcheberry’s former clients? How ‘bout former NFL head coach and quarterback and current Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh? Or golf’s Ernie Els? Or the Mexican National Soccer Team? To top it all off, he develops training programs for some of the business world’s top level executives from Texas Instruments, Merrill Lynch and Pfizer, just to name a few.

You would be hard pressed to find a better start to the school year for the Tigers. Mental toughness, fitness, confidence and competitiveness are all qualities Etcheberry preaches during his sessions, all characteristics Clemson will need for a championship run this spring.

We’ll see if the training pays off.
