Trahan Wins Second Straight Event

Birmingham, AL – D.J.Trahan fired a season best 67 in the final round and captured co-medalist honors at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate Golf tournament at the Old Overton Golf Club in Birmingham, AL on Tuesday. It was the second straight victory for Trahan, who won the Carpet Classic in Dalton, GA just 10 days ago.

Trahan tied for individual honors with Hunter Mahan of Oklahoma State, who fired an impressive 65 during he windy conditions on Tuesday. Trahan and Mahan finished with 54-hole scores of 205, eight-under-par on the 6958-yard, par 71 course.

Trahan has now finished first or second in three straight tournaments, a first in Clemson history. He was second at the Ping Preview prior to the Carpet Classic. Combined with his win at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate his freshman year, Trahan now has three tournament victories in his Clemson career. The record is five set by Chris Patton between 1986-90. However two of those wins came at the Hancock Invitational, an All-American tournament in which Clemson did not compete as a team. Kevin Johnson captured four events in his four-year career from 1985-89. Trahan joins Lucas Glover, Charles Warren and Jimmy White as three-time winners.

Clemson finished third in the tournament as a team on Tuesday. Oklahoma State won the event with an 851 score, one-under par. They had a 285 team score on Tuesday, eight shots better than any other team. Wake Forest finished second at 853, while the Tigers were third at 860.

Arizona finished fourth at 10-over-par 862, while Georgia Tech was fifth at 868. Auburn was sixth at 871, while Texas and Georgia were tied for seventh at 876. UAB was ninth at 883, while host school Alabama was 10th at 889. UNLV, NCAA Champion just four years ago, was 11th at 894, while Arizona State was 12th and last at 900.

Trahan was supported by Gregg Jones who had a 54-hole score of 215, two-over par. The sophomore had a 76 on Tuesday and finished tied for 13th. Matt Hendrix had a 77 on Tuesday and finished with a 222 total for the three rounds, good enough for 32nd.

Ben Duncan had a 79 on Tuesday and finished 35th with a 224 score, while Jack Ferguson had a 73 on Tuesday, second best among the Tigers, and finished at 229, 47th.
