Track & Field Set for Penn Relays

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson track & field team heads to Philadelphia for the 123rd annual Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at the Quakers’ Franklin Field. The Tigers are set to compete Thursday through Saturday (April 26-28) in their final regular-season meet, which places a heavy emphasis on relay events.

“We’re going to emphasize certain relays and try to get our best performances out of those” said Clemson head coach Mark Elliott. “There are some individual events that we’re try to get better at, and that also helps.”

The Clemson men enter the Penn Relays as the No. 1 4x400m relay unit in the ACC and No. 2 on the women’s side. The Tigers will look to improve their times in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays – the two relays that are officially scored by the NCAA.

“We’re going there for more than one reason. Of course, we’re going to go compete and try to improve, but it’s also a big recruiting base for us. It’s a chance to showcase our team in the best light we can in those event areas – events such as the SMR, 4×800, and DMR, on top of the 4x100m and 4x400m, which are the traditional NCAA events. We’ll make sure we showcase our team very well because in my opinion it’s the best recruiting trip we can take as a coaching staff.”

The Tigers are coming off an impressive outing last weekend at LSU’s Alumni Gold meet. There, Clemson posted 11 top-48 marks in the NCAA east region.
