Feb. 26, 2008

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team will open the 2008 ACC season on Wednesday afternoon as the 24th-ranked Tigers travel to Atlanta to take on defending national champion and #2 Georgia Tech. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 pm at the Bill Moore Tennix Complex.

Clemson’s Ani Mijacika, named the ACC Player-of-the-Week on Tuesday, has won 10 matches over ranked opponents this year and will likely face another test on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets’ boast singles players ranked fourth and sixth in the nation in sophomore Amanda McDowell and senior Kristi Miller, respectively. Mijacika boasts a 17-4 record that includes wins over Georgia Tech’s Miller, Maya Johansson and Whitney McCray during the fall season.

The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 4-3 loss to Georgia at home on Saturday that dropped them to 7-2 overall.

Tigers Versus Georgia Tech, All-Time Wednesday’s match-up will be the 29th meeting in history between the Clemson and Georgia Tech women’s tennis teams. The Tigers lead the series score by a wide 22-6 margin and were one of just four teams to defeat the Yellow Jackets during their national-championship season in 2007. Clemson eked out the 4-3 victory at home.
