Tigers to Host Annual Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Tigers’ track & field team is set to return to the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex to host the annual Clemson Invitational. The meet, which begins Friday, Jan. 19 and concludes Saturday, Jan. 20, features Duke, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, J.C. Smith, Kentucky, Penn State, Purdue and Virginia Tech. The men’s pentathlon will kick off the meet at 9:30 a.m., Friday morning.

Clemson is coming off an impressive performance last weekend at Texas A&M’s Ted Nelson Invitational, which saw seven first-place finishes by the Tigers. Junior John Lewis, who ran the ACC’s top 800m time at Texas A&M, garnered his second straight ACC Track Performer of the Week honor – also the second of his career. In addition to Lewis’s first-place performance in the 800m, Torie Robinson (7.35) and Rebekah Smith (7.43) swept top-two finishes in the women’s 60m. Kirk Lewis (8.02) and Markeeta Thomas (8.48) swept titles for Clemson in the 60mH, and Alex Sands (21.26) won the men’s 200m.

Entering this weekend’s meet, Clemson owns a combined 10 best times/marks in the ACC, and a combined five top-10 bests in the NCAA.
