Tigers Prepare to Meet Emory

Feb. 3, 2011

ATLANTA, Ga.- The Clemson University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will face Emory University on the road on Saturday at 1 p.m. This will be the final regular season meet of the season for the Tigers and will serve as Senior Day for both programs.

Live feed of the meet will be available at http://go.emory.edu/Webcasts/SwimWebcast.html.

Clemson will be honoring a trifecta of seniors on the men’s team in David Gordon, Josef Knecht, and Kyle Shoemaker. Meggie Mizelle, Elizabeth Savage, Sarah Smith, and Rachel Sparks are the four seniors on the women’s team.

The two schools will square off in a dual meet for the first time since 2002. Clemson comes into this meet with records of 5-3 (2-2 ACC) on the men’s side and 3-5 (1-3 ACC) on the women’s side. Emory sports a 4-3 mark on the women’s side and currently sits atop the Division III coaches’ poll. The Eagle men are ranked second and are 3-4 on the season.

“It will be great for us to finish up the regular season this weekend,” Head Coach Christopher Ip said. “Emory’s women are the defending national champions in Division III and they are number one in their poll right now. The men are always in the top five.

“It will be a great opportunity to compete against a tough out-of-conference opponent in their environment. It’s kind of become our home pool, in a way, because of the situation with our pool. We think it will be a fast pool for us.”

This will be the 38th meeting between the schools on the men’s side, with Clemson holding a 21-16 lead historically. The Tigers have won both all-time meetings against Emory on the women’s side.
