Tigers Overpowered by Gamecocks on Friday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s tennis team fell to the in-state rival, No. 28 South Carolina by a score of 6-1 on Friday night at the AU Tennis Center in Anderson, S.C. With the loss, the Tigers dropped to 10-11, while the Gamecocks improved to 12-7.

The Gamecocks won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to claim the doubles point, and took a 3-0 lead in the match with a straight-set win at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Moments later, South Carolina clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set win at No. 6. After dropping the second set, freshman Yizhou Liu clinched the lone point for the Tigers winning the third set tie break 10-4.

Clemson returns to the courts on Sunday, April 22 against Notre Dame at 12:30 p.m. for senior day. The Tigers are going to be honoring our two seniors, Sam Edwards and Alex Favrot prior to the start of the match at 12:20 p.m. The match is the last match of the regular season before the ACC Tournament that is set to begin on April 25, in Cary, N.C.
