CLEMSON, S.C. – Five members of the Clemson diving team are in action at the 2015 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships beginning Monday, March 9 in Athens, Ga. Senior Jessica Doolittle, junior Megan Helwagen, sophomore Sarah Braun and freshmen Allison Brophy and Hannah Donovan will compete in the three-day meet, to be held at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.
Three Tigers – Braun, Brophy and Helwagen – will compete in all three events at the zone meet. Donovan is entered in the one-meter and three-meter and Doolittle is competing in the one-meter and platform. For Doolittle, the senior from Matthews, N.C., it is the first zone meet of her career. She posted her best score in the one-meter (275.40 points) on the road against College of Charleston on Jan. 24. Her platform performance, in which she won the event with 225.10 points, at the Pittsburgh Invitational on Nov. 23 was her best of the year in that event.
Helwagen, a junior from Mason, Ohio, is competing in the NCAA zone meet for the third straight year, and has entered in all three events each year. Her best finish overall finish is a 27th place in the one-meter in 2013, and she followed that with a 28th-place finish in the same event in 2014. Braun, from Beaverton, Ore., placed 21st in the three-meter event in 2014. Braun posted a team-best nine zone qualifying scores in 2014-15 (four in the one-meter, four in the three-meter and one in the platform). Helwagen tied for second on the team with seven qualifying scores.
The NCAA Zone meet opens Monday with the three-meter event. The one-meter competition is set for Tuesday, March 10 and the meet concludes with the platform event on Wednesday, March 11. Preliminaries are held first each day, with the top 18 scorers from the prelims advancing to the finals later in the day. Live results will be available throughout the week on DiveMeets.com.
