Tigers Host North Greenville in Exhibition Sunday at Littlejohn

Clemson Notes:

  • The Tigers are coming off of a 2016-17 season in which the team made dramatic improvements, winning 11 more games than the previous season to finish the year with a 15-16 record, including a win over Virginia Tech in the first round of the 2017 ACC Tournament, the program’s first ACC tournament win since the 2014 season.
  • Clemson was 11-2 in nonconference play in 2016-17, which was the program’s best nonconference record since 2003-04. The team’s only two nonconference losses came to top-25 teams (No. 6 South Carolina and No. 25 Oregon).
  • The Tigers return 10 letterwinners, including four out of five starters, from the 2016-17 team, and also return redshirt junior Francesca Tagliapietra, who will be back on the court for the in 2017-18 after missing the previous two seasons due to injury.
  • Point guard Danielle Edwards is back for her junior season after starting all 61 games for the Tigers the past two seasons, 30 in 2015-16 and 31 in 2016-17. Edwards played more minutes than any other Tiger both seasons as well, averaging 33.0 minutes per game as a freshman and 32.3 as a sophomore. In 2016-17, Edwards averaged 9.7 points per game, 4.2 rebounds per game, 2.4 assists per game and 1.9 steals per game.
  • Kobi Thornton returns for her sophomore season, after being named to the ACC All-Freshman team in 2017. She was the first Clemson player to earn the conference’s rookie award since 2012. As a freshman, Thornton finished in the top 10 in the ACC in three statistical categories – sixth in offensive rebounds (79, 3.0 per game), seventh in blocked shots (35, 1.3 per game) and ninth in field goal percentage (.536).

Promotions:

  • Sunday’s game is designated Halloween Hoops.
  • Prior to the game, there will be a costume contest and a pumpkin carving contest, as well as other games and activities for children and families.
  • After the game, members of the Clemson women’s basketball team will sign autographs, and there will be an opportunity for children to trick-or-treat with student-athletes from other Clemson sports.
