Tigers Host North Carolina in Dig Pink Match Sunday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson volleyball team hosts 12th-ranked North Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. The match, which will be broadcast live on ESPN3, is the Tigers’ first conference match of the season in the confines of Jervey Gym. Sunday’s contest is also the program’s Dig Pink match, in which the Tigers will raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

At the match, Dig Pink t-shirts will be available for sale and silent auction items will be available for bid. Pink breast cancer ribbons will be distributed to fans while supplies last. Fans can also make donations to the Side-Out Foundation: https://www.side-out.org/cb/campaigns/campaign/9004.

Clemson is 11-4 overall and 0-2 in ACC play, and is coming off a 3-1 loss to Miami in Coral Gables on Friday night. Senior Kristin Faust led the team offensively with 18 kills, while senior Niki Collier led the defense with 20 digs. On the season, Faust leads the team with 196 kills and a 3.77 per set average. Freshman Kate Federico has 555 assists on the year for 9.91 per set. Collier has 187 digs on the season (3.34 per set) and senior Karis Watson has 80 blocks (1.43 per set).

The Tar Heels, ranked 12th nationally, are 11-2 overall and 2-1 in ACC play and are coming off of a five-set comeback victory over Pittsburgh on the road on Friday night. North Carolina is led by Lauren McAdoo, with 123 kills for a 2.80 per set average. Ece Taner has 174 digs (3.95 per set) to lead the team defensively.

Clemson and North Carolina have met on the volleyball court 72 times. North Carolina holds a 56-16 all-time advantage in the series, which includes an 18-6 mark in matches played in Jervey Gym. The last Clemson win in the series was a 3-2 victory on Oct. 31, 2009 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
