Tigers Fifth After Two Rounds of Golf Digest

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Lucas Glover fired a second round 70 to lead Clemson to a 290 team score and a fifth-place standing after two rounds of the Golf Digest Collegiate at the Desert Inn Country Club in Las Vegas. The 15-team tournament concludes Sunday with 18 holes.

Clemson is tied for fifth with New Mexico with a 585 team score, 11 strokes behind first place Georgia, who shot a tournament best 278 score on Saturday. Oklahoma State had a 280 on saturday and is second at 578. UNLV stands third at 579, while Georgia Tech is at 580 in four place.

Clemson shot five shots better on Saturday than it had in the opening round. Glover was five shots better himself shooting the two-under par 70 after a 75 on friday. Glover stands in 12th place after two rounds and is Clemson’s highest ranked golfer in the field.

Jonathan Byrd had an even par 72 in the second round and his 147 score after two rounds is 23rd. Elliot Gealy, Clemson’s top performer in the first round with 72, shot a 76 on Saturday and is 30th at 148. John Engler had a 77 on Saturday and is tied with teammate Michael Hoey at 150. Hoey, a freshman from Ireland, had an even par 72 on Saturday.

Bryce Molder of Georgia Tech and David Gossett of Texas are tied for first in the individual race with a 139 score, five-under par.
