Tigers Face Notre Dame in ACC Championships Second Round Thursday

Clemson Notes:

  • Clemson (12-11, 7-7 ACC) concluded the ACC regular season with home wins over Boston College (5-2) on April 21 and No. 33 Notre Dame (6-1) on April 23.
  • Sophomore Marie-Alexandre Leduc is 12-8 in dual singles matches and 9-5 in ACC play this season. She has a 5-3 record since moving to the No. 1 position in the singles lineup on March 23.
  • Freshman Constanza Gorches is 13-8 in singles play and 8-6 in the ACC, playing primarily at No. 5 singles. Gorches’ 13 dual singles wins are most on the Clemson team.
  • Sophomore Fernanda Navarro is currently on a five-match winning streak in singles play, dating back to April 7.
  • Clemson has won the doubles point in 16 out of 23 matches this season. The Tigers started the season clinching the doubles point in two of their first six matches, and since then, have won the doubles point in 14 out of 17 matches. The team claimed the doubles point in 11 out of its 14 ACC regular season matches.
  • Leduc and fellow sophomore Ayan Broomfield are 19-4 overall in doubles, including 14-3 in dual matches and 10-2 in ACC play. The pair has won five-straight contests, and is 4-1 against nationally-ranked opponents this season.
  • Navarro and junior Daniela Ruiz are 13-1 in dual doubles matches and 10-1 in conference play. The pair is currently on a nine-match winning streak.
  • Two Tigers earned ACC Player of the Week honors in two consecutive weeks earlier this season. Sophomore Ayan Broomfield garnered the award on March 6, and freshman Constanza Gorches did so on March 13.
  • Clemson’s 2017 roster is made up of one junior, five sophomores and two freshmen.
  • Head Coach Nancy Harris is in her 20th season with the Tigers. In her first 19 seasons at the helm of the program, Harris took the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament 17 times, including 15-consecutive years from 2002-16.

Series Information vs. Notre Dame:

  • Notre Dame has a 9-6 all-time advantage in the series against the Tigers, in which the first match was played in 1992. Clemson has a 4-1 record against the Irish since Notre Dame joined the ACC three years ago.
  • Clemson and Notre Dame met just three days ago, on Sunday, April 23 in Clemson. In that contest, the No. 47 Tigers upset the No. 33 Irish 6-1, in a match that was played indoors in the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center.
  • The Tigers and Irish also met in the second round of the ACC Championships last season, on April 21, 2016 in Cary, N.C. In that match, Notre Dame upset Clemson by a score of 4-1.
