Tigers Explode Against Coastal Carolina

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson scored nine runs in the fifth inning on its way to a 14-6 win over Coastal Carolina Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field. Clemson improved to 7-6 while Coastal Carolina fell to 13-5.

Brian Adams had his best outing of the year in picking up the win. He allowed just one run on nine hits and walked one while striking out four. Chanticleer starter Rett Johnson (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season. Coastal Carolina pitchers walked 10 Tiger batters.

The Tigers got on the board in the first inning with three runs. Brian Ellis walked and scored on Henri Stanley’s double to center. Stanley later scored on Rett Johnson’s wild pitch. Patrick Boyd then hit a towering home run over the right field fence. Clemson increased its first inning scoring this season to 26 runs while its opponents have scored just three runs.

Clemson broke the game open with nine runs on seven hits in the fifth inning. Boyd drove home the first run with a sacrifice fly to right center and Khalil Greene followed with an RBI single to left center. Kurt Bultmann also hit a two-run double, his 10th of the season, to highlight the uprising.

Boyd led Clemson with three hits to go along with a homer, three RBIs, a stolen base, and a sacrifice fly. Stanley and Bultmann had two hits and two RBIs apiece. Bobby Fish led the Chanticleers with three hits and three RBIs. Coastal Carolina out-hit the Tigers 16-14.

Clemson will play host to George Mason in a three-game series this weekend beginning Friday at 3:00 PM. Fans who present their business card will receive admission to Friday’s game.
