June 29, 1999

CLEMSON, S.C. – With all six starters returning from a year ago, Clemson was selected as the preseason favorite for the upcoming ACC volleyball season by a vote of the league’s nine head coaches.

The Tigers finished the 1998 season in a fourth place tie in the ACC with an overall record of 22-11 and 10-6 in the conference. Last season, Clemson advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in six seasons under the leadership of head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover.

Among the six starters returning for Clemson will be 1998 ACC Rookie of the Year Jodi Steffes. Seniors Allison Coday and Cindy Stern were both second team All-ACC picks in 1998, and Coday was also an AVCA All-District team member.

Virginia, coached by former Clemson assistant coach Melissa Shelton, was picked to finish second, while Georgia Tech was picked third.
