WACO, Texas (AP) – Kevin Sevigny hit a three-run double in the fourth to lead Baylor past Clemson 6-1 Monday to win the NCAA super regional in Waco and advance to the College World Series.

“I was just looking for a good pitch to put in play and drive to the gap,” Sevigny said. “When it came 3-2, I knew they wouldn’t walk me. Finally, they threw me a fastball right down the plate.”

The Bears (44-22) will go to the College World Series for the third time overall and make their first trip since 1978.

“That’s a feeling you’ll never forget,” Baylor catcher Josh Ford said. “I’ve never been that happy on a baseball field. Today was just our day.”

Cory VanAllen (8-4) got the victory, giving up seven hits and only one run over six innings. Ryan LaMotta pitched three innings of shutout relief and picked up his seventh save of the year.

Robert Rohrbaugh (8-3) took the loss for Clemson (43-23), allowing four runs and six hits over 4 1-3 innings.

“They’re a very good-hitting club and very aggressive,” VanAllen said. “I tried to move off a little bit. We used the slider a lot, working it in and out.”

Baylor tied the game 1-1 with one out in the fourth on a home run by Ford, his eighth of the year. Reid Brees and Zach Dillon hit back-to-back singles, and Mike Pankratz walked to load the bases. Sevigny then hit his double to left center to make it 4-1.

The Bears added runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Ford had an RBI double down the left-field line in the seventh, and Seth Fortenberry homered in the eighth.

Clemson’s lone run came in the second on Kris Harvey’s 25th homer this year.

“We got here and wanted to go to Omaha,” Tigers shortstop Stan Widmann said. “The young guys will just have to look forward to next year.”
