Tigers Drop Match to No. 19 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C – The No. 19 South Carolina Gamecocks proved too much for the Clemson women’s tennis team to overcome on Thursday evening, as the Tigers fell 4-0 at the Carolina Tennis Center. With the loss, Clemson moved to 3-2 on the season.

The Gamecocks got out to an initial lead by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles, and the momentum continued into the singles for South Carolina. Quick Gamecock victories at No. 3 and No. 5 singles put the overall lead at 3-0 in favor of South Carolina.

Fernanda Navarro and Marie-Alexandre Leduc won their first sets at No. 4 and No. 1 singles, respectively, and Leduc was poised to win hers, but neither match finished as South Carolina clinched the overall match victory with a win at No. 2 singles.

The Tigers stay on the road for their next match, as they travel to Athens, Ga. for a contest with the No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday at 4 p.m.
