Tigers Down Furman in Spring Volleyball Action

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team won a 3-2 (25-15, 26-24, 20-25, 22-25, 15-12) decision over Furman on Wednesday in a spring exhibition match. It was the second of three spring dates for the Tigers, who will now turn their attention to the April 10 tournament with Winthrop and Charlotte.

Cansu Ozdemir posted a double-double with 11 kills and 18 digs as one of Clemson’s top performers in the match. Sandra Adeleye posted 13 kills and six blocks to pace the Tigers. Serenat Yaz also had a strong outing, notching nine kills and ten digs.

All-ACC Freshman Lacy Hayes had a stellar first performance in her first home experience, registering 38 assists and five kills with no errors.

Clemson took the first set handily, 25-15, holding Furman to -.038 hitting mark. The Tigers won a closer second set, 26-24 to take a 2-0 lead. Furman fought back to take the next two sets to force a fifth, which Clemson won, 15-12. There were 25 ties and 12 lead changes in all.

Clemson hosts a tournament on Saturday in Jervey. The Tigers will take on Winthrop at 10:00 am, before playing Charlotte at 1:00 pm. Winthrop and Charlotte will play at 11:30 am.
