PACIFIC PALISADES, CA – The Clemson women’s tennis team closed play in Pacific Palisades, CA at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. Four members were out competing in various draws, completing play on Sunday.
Top-ranked doubles team of Josipa Bek and Keri Wong dropped their quarterfinals match to Standford’s Mallory Burdette and Nicloce Gibbs , 8-5. Burdette and Gibbs went on the win the title, and it was the second straight year Burdette knocked Wong and Bek out of the tournament, as they defeated the Clemson duo in the Finals last season.
Burdette, ranked 17th in the nation, also defeated No. 8 Bek, 6-4, 6-2, in the Main Draw singles consolation, which Burdette eventually won. Bek dropped her first round match to Ariel Ellis of Texas, 7-6(4), 6-4 on Friday, which sent her in to the consolation draw.
Keri Wong defeated Hanna Mar of Duke in straight sets in the qualifying back draw to close her play.
The team will return to action in two weeks at the ITA Carolina Region Championships. The winners there are entered into the ITA Indoor Championships in November.
