Tigers’ 16-Match Winning Streak Comes To An End

CLEMSON, S.C. -The North Carolina volleyball team defeated #13 Clemson 3-1(6-15, 15-9, 15-10, 15-5) Saturday night at Jervey Gym. The Tar Heels ended the Tigers 16-match winning streak, handing the team its first loss of the season.

Clemson senior Alison Coday had 26 kills and 10 digs in the match, while senior middle blocker Cindy Stern added 21 kills, 10 digs and six blocks. Senior Skye Frost hit .462 with six kills, no errors and 13 attempts. Freshman setter Jessi Betcher had 59 assists, 18 digs and five kills, and sophomore Jodi Steffes had 13 digs and kills. Senior Emily Gorla had eight kills and eight digs.

Casey Simpson led North Carolina with 23 kills and 17 digs. Tori Seibert had 17 kills, four errors and 29 attempts for a .448 attack percentage and added five blocks for the Tar Heels. Shannon Smith recorded nine kills and nine blocks, while Asa Gustavsson had 15 kills and 12 digs.

Clemson (16-1, 5-1 ACC) will play at Maryland next Friday at 7 p.m. North Carolina improves to 14-3, 6-0 ACC with the win.
