Tiger Women’s Tennis Concludes Action At Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team concluded play on Sunday at the 2006 Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, SC. Freshman Selma Babic led the Tigers with a fourth-place finish in the flight four bracket.

After winning her first match of the tournament, Babic fell in the semifinals and then was forced to forfeit her third-place match-up due to an injury.

Ani Mijacika and Ina Hadziselimovic won their respective matches on Sunday to place fifth in the annual event. Mijacika defeated Laura Gioia of Furman, 7-5,6-2, at flight one, while Hadziselimovic claimed a 7-6(7), 6-2 decision over the Paladins’ Natasa Manojlovic in the flight five bracket.

In other singles action, Kathi Gerber fell to Liz Carpenter of Wisconsin at flight three, 6-2, 6-3. Alexandra Luc did not play on Sunday because of injury.

Next on the slate for the Clemson tennis team is the Riveria/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, CA beginning Oct. 5. Tigers Carol Salge and Federica van Adrichem will compete in singles and as a doubles team.
