Tiger Rowing Provides Good Showing at Head of the Hooch

Chattanooga, TN – The Clemson rowing team finished fourth in the championship 8+ to highlight a good showing at the highly-regarded Head of the Hooch regatta on Saturday. The Tigers also got a fourth-place finish out of their top varsity 4+ boat Saturday.

In the championship 8+, the Tigers’ A boat finished in fourth place with a 5000m time of 16:01.2. The University of Tennessee took the top two spots in the race. Clemson’s second varsity 8+ finished 14th out of the 27-boat field with a time of 16:27.4. The C boat crossed the finish line with a time of 16:39.

In the championship 4+, Clemson’s top boat took home a fourth-place finish after completing the race course with a time of 17:29.6. In that race, Tennessee was first overall and Kansas came home in second position. The Tigers’ second varsity 4+ finished right behind in fifth place, just tenths of a second behind the A boat. Their time was 17:29.9. Clemson’s C boat was 18th with a time of 18:13.2, while the D boat was right behind in 19th (18:21.3).

In the novice 8+, the Tigers only entered one boat but did manage a fourth-place finish out of 22 competing teams. The crew posted a time of 17:14.1, finishing just seconds behind Texas’ A boat. The B boat from Texas actually won the event with a time of 16:40.4.

Clemson coaches also got in on the fun Saturday. In the championship doubles event, Assistant Coach Becca Brinker and Student Coach and former Tiger letter winner Shaw Tilton teamed up to finish second out of four boats. Lueck and Tilton had a time of 18:19.8 in their event.

The Tigers close out the fall season on Sunday, November 12 in the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville, VA.
