Tiger Rowing Finishes Fall Season at Rivanna Romp

Nov. 12, 2006

Charlottesville, VA – The Clemson rowing team concluded the fall season Sunday at the Rivanna Romp. The morning was marked by cold, wet, and windy conditions. Head Coach Susie Lueck was pleased with the team’s effort and results, not only Sunday but also the entire fall season.

“The team did a great job through difficult conditions,” Lueck said. “It was a good way to end the fall season and get ready for winter conditioning.”

The varsity 8+ race kicked off at 9:00 AM Sunday, but had to be raced for a second time after a timing error. All the teams had loaded up boats, but had to take them off the trailers to race again. Lueck estimated the Tigers’ first effort was 15 seconds better than the second race. In the second running of the varsity 8+, Clemson finished 14th in their A boat with a time of 14:02.97. Two miles into the race, the Tigers’ top boat picked up significant debris to slow their progress. Clemson’s B boat was 21st with a time of 14:27.4, while the C boat came through with a time of 14:30.2.

In the novice 8+ race, Clemson’s top boat finished second to Virginia’s A crew. The Tigers turned in a time of 15:05.08, while Clemson’s B boat was sixth overall with a time of 15:51.45.
