Tiger Golfers Finish Third at The Ridges

Sept. 14, 2003

Clemson, SC – Jack Ferguson shot a two-under par 214 score for three rounds to lead Clemson to a third-place finish at the Bank of Tennessee @ The Ridges Collegiate at The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Johnson City, TN. Clemson finished with an 871 team score over the par 72 course that is 7147 yards in length.

It marked the 19th consecutive top three finish for Larry Penley’s defending National Champions, the longest streak of top three finishes in Clemson history. The streak dates to a sixth place finish at the Chris Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, GA in March of 2002.

The Tigers posted team rounds of 291-288-292 in finishing in a tie with Southern California at The Ridges. Florida won the event with an 854 team score, while TCU was second at 859.

Ferguson finished in sixth place in the individual race with rounds of 73-69-72. It marked the fourth time in the last five tournaments that Ferguson was Clemson’s top player. The current junior finished 13th at The Ridges in his first career event two years ago in his first ever college event. Clemson did not play in this event last year, as the Tigers competed in a tournament in Japan.

Gregg Jones was Clemson’s second best player with an 18th place finish after a 218 score for the 54 holes. He turned in consistent scores of 73-73-72. Brian Duncan, a sophomore from Greenville, finished 25th individually after rounds of 72-75-72 for a 219 score.

Brent Delahoussaye, playing in his first event for Clemson, finished 41st after rounds of 73-72-78. He was four over par over his last four holes on Sunday to finish with a 223 total.

Stephen Poole, playing in first collegiate event, had rounds of 76-74-76 to finish 55th. Poole was replacing All-American Matt Hendrix, who took the week off after competing in England in the Walker Cup for the United States team last weekend.

Greenville native and Wake Forest senior Bill Haas won the tournament with a 10-under-par score of 206.
