Oct. 2, 2007

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA – The Clemson women’s tennis doubles team of Estefania Balda and Carol Salge advanced to the second day of the qualifying round at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday. Salge also won her match-up in singles play to reach Wednesday’s second round action at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, CA.

Balda and Salge defeated Western Michigan’s tandem of Kirsten Pahl and Priyanka Parekh in the opening round by an 8-4 margin and are now 3-1 for the fall season. The Tiger duo will take on Southern California’s team of Amanda Fink and Gabriela Niculescu on Wednesday. Should they win that match, they would play their third-round contest on Wednesday as well for the chance to advance to the main draw of the tournament.

In singles action, Salge claimed a 6-0, 6-4 decision over Arizona’s Danielle Steinberg in her first-round match-up. She will face Reka Zsilinszka of Duke in the second round on Wednesday.

Balda then suffered a three-set loss to Pepperdine’s Sylvia Kosakowski in her opening round contest (6-3, 2-6, 6-4).
