Tiger Cross Country Team Wins Western Carolina Invitational To Open 2003 Season

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s cross country team opened its 2003 season with a win at the Western Carolina Invitational contested on Friday evening in Cullowhee, NC. The Tigers tallied 23 points to claim the meet title, finishing 41 points ahead of runner-up Georgia State. The University of Georgia placed third of nine teams with 78 points. Host Western Carolina finished fourth with 83 points, Milligan took fifth with 141 points, and UNC Asheville tallied 151 points for sixth-place. Truett McDonnell’s 222 points was good for seventh place, Brevard College was eighth with 244 points, and North Georgia finished ninth with 259 points.

Senior Matt Pimentel was sixth in 25:08. Sophomore Clay Pendleton clocked a time of 25:20 to finish seventh, and freshman Greg Isaacs was 10th with his time of 25:30. Junior Derrick Wyatt placed 17th with a time of 25:49, and senior David Smith was 18th in 25:56.

The Clemson men’s cross country team returns to action on Sept. 20, as the Tigers travel to Athens, GA, to compete in the Georgia Invitational.
