Three Women’s Tennis Players in 2010 Preseason Rankings

Sept. 10, 2010

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced their preseason rankings for NCAA Division-I Women’s Tennis on Friday, and included three Tigers in the list.

Junior All-American Josipa Bek is the highest-ranked Tiger, opening the 2010-11 year ranked #12 in the nation. As a sophomore, the Osijek, Croatia native won 28 singles matches, including the 2009 ITA Carolina Region Singles Championship. Bek is a two-time All-ACC selection, and a four-time All-American.

Next on the list is Junior Keri Wong, who checks in at a career-best #39. Wong had an outstanding summer, winning three summer circuit tournaments, and advancing to the final 16 of the ITA Summer Circuit National Championships. She was a 2010 All-ACC selection as a sophomore as well.

Sophomore Nelly Ciolkowski, the 2010 ITA Carolina Region Rookie of the Year, is ranked 68th in the nation after posting a 28-7 record in her freshman campaign.

In doubles, Wong and Bek are ranked #5 nationally as a tandem. As freshmen, both players were double All-Americans, as Wong spent most of the season ranked in the top ten with then-junior Ani Mijacika, and Bek advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 with Ina Hadziselimovic.

Clemson advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 during the spring season for the sixth time in the last seven years, and finish the season ranked #11 in the nation after going 24-6.

The Tigers will begin their fall season with the Furman Fall Classic on September 24.
