Three Tigers Named to All-ACC Team

GREENSBORO, NC – Three members of the Clemson women’s tennis team have been named to the All-ACC team by league coaches as announced by the ACC office on Wednesday. Sophomores Beatrice Gumulya and Yana Koroleva, as well as freshman Liz Jeukeng each earned their first career honors in helping the Tigers to a 9-2 finish in the ACC and the No. 2 seed in this week’s ACC Tournament.  The three selections are the most for Clemson since 2010, when Josipa Bek, Keri Wong, and Ina Hadziselimovic were named to the team. Clemson tied Duke and North Carolina with three players apiece on the 18-member team.  All three players are ranked among the top-40 singles players in the nation in the ITA poll and have compiled a cumulative 60-15 (.800) record overall, and a 29-3 (.906) record against ACC competition this season.  Koroleva, ranked 15th in the nation, is 21-7 overall and went 10-1 in ACC play, including a 9-1 record in the No. 1 singles spot. She has 13 wins this season against ranked opponents, and was named the ACC Player of the Week three times.  Jeukeng, a 16-year-old freshman from Boca Raton, FL, went 17-4 overall and 10-1 in the ACC, including a 9-1 mark at the No. 2 position. She is 9-3 against ranked opponents this season and has been ranked as high as No. 24.  Gumulya, ranked 38th in the nation, leads the squad in wins at 22-4, which includes a 15-3 record at the No. 3 position (9-1 against ACC teams). The sophomore from Jakarta, Indonesia has gone 33-4 (.891) over her last 37 matches dating to an 11-match winning streak to end last season.  Clemson will begin play in the ACC Tournament in Cary, NC on Friday against the winner of a match between Wake Forest and Florida State.  2013 All-ACC Women’s Tennis Team Alex Kelleher, Sr., Boston College Beatrice Gumulya, So., Clemson Liz Jeukeng, Fr., Clemson Yana Koroleva, So., Clemson Mary Clayton, Sr., Duke Ester Goldfeld, So., Duke ** Hanna Mar, Jr., Duke ** Daneika Borthwick, So., Florida State Kendal Woodard, Fr., Georgia Tech Vroni Van Berlo, Sr., Maryland Stephanie Wagner, Fr., Miami Gina Suarez-Malaguti, Sr., North Carolina Zoe De Bruycker, Sr., North Carolina *** Caroline Price, So., North Carolina Joelle Kissell, Jr., NC State ** Julia Elbaba, Fr., Virginia Stephanie Nauta, Fr.,Virginia Ilinca Stoica, Fr., Virginia Tech Kathryn Talbert, Sr., Wake Forest #an extra member was added to the team due to a tie in voting. **- Two-time All-ACC Selection ***- Three Time All-ACC Selection ACC Player of the Year: Gina Suarez-Malaguti, Sr., North Carolina ACC Freshman of the Year: Julia Elbaba, Fr., Virginia ACC Coach of the Year: Brian Kalbas, North Carolina
