Three Tiger Doubles Teams And Three Singles Players To Continue Play In ITA Southeast Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Three doubles teams and three singles players on the Clemson women’s tennis team will continue competition at the 2004 ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday. Daniela Alvarez, Maria Brito and Ioana Paun will begin play in the main singles draw on Friday morning. Alvarez is seeded seventh in the tournament and will face Tennessee’s Vicki Jones in her first match. Brito, seeded 10th, is slated to play Jenna Loeb of Wake Forest, while Paun will play Kentucky’s Christine Simpson in their first round matches.

In doubles action, Paun and Richele LeSaldo captured their first win of the tournament with an 8-5 victory over Middle Tennessee State’s tandem of Ana Maria Cibils and Jennifer Klaschka. They will play Kentucky’s eighth-seeded duo of Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk on Friday. Julie Coin and Alix Lacelarie , seeded sixth, will take on Blakely Offutt and Danielle Schwartz on Friday, while third-seeded Alvarez and Brito face Alet Boonzaaier and Marina Tasheva of Tennessee Tech.

In Thursday’s qualifying round action, LeSaldo lost a tough three-set match (6-2, 4-6, 4-6) to Larisa Bekmatova of Winthrop.
