Tennessee Defeats Clemson 4-3

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Tennessee won the doubles point and defeated Clemson 4-3 at the Blue Gray Classic in Montgomery, AL Saturday morning.

Tennessee is ranked 21st nationally, while Clemson is 66th. Clemson is now 3-4 on the season.

Clemson went up 1-0 in the match with Ayrton Wibowo defeated Jarryd Chaplin at number-four singles 6-1, 6-4.

The Volunteers won the next two matches to claim 2-1 lead in the match as Edward Jones defeated Zachary Rigsby 6-3, 6-1 at number-five singles. In the number-six singles match, Taylor Patrick defeated the Tigers’ Wes Moran 6-2, 6-0.

In the number-one singles match, Yannick Maden, ranked 75th nationally, defeated Mikelis Libietis, ranked 81st in the latest poll, 7-6, 6-3 to knot the score 2-2.

Hunter Reese of Tennessee defeated Dominique Maden 6-4 6-3 at number three singles. Ayrton Wibowo of Clemson defeated Jarryd Chaplin 6-1, 6-4 to tie the match score, 3-3 after singles play.

In doubles, Tennessee won a pair of tiebreaker matches to get the doubles point to win the match.

At number two doubles, Chaplin and Fickey defated Gerardo Meza and Cedric Willems 9-8. At number-three doubles, the Volunteers’ Jones and Bryan Swartz defeated Dominique Maden and Moran 9-8.

Clemson will play Alabama on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. EST.
