Swimming and Diving Completes Second Day at ACC Championships

CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Clemson women’s swimming and diving team moved to eighth place after day two at the ACC Championships at Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, NC. The women competed in five events, the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 200 free relay. In diving, the women competed on the one-meter event while the men competed on the three-meter.

The first event was the 500 free. Junior Sarah Smith made the bonus consolation finals and finished 23rd with a time of 4:56.21. Freshman Rachel Hesler was 29th and senior Mandy Snell finished 30th in the prelims.

In the 200 IM, freshman Elizabeth Savage also competed in the consolation final heat and finished 24th with a 2:05.36, but moved into eighth place in Clemson history with a prelim time of 2:03.95. Senior Katrina Obas finished 27th and sophomore Kerry McLaughlin took 34th.

The 50 free was next, with senior Alex Allen competing in the consolation final and freshman Heather Savage also put in a lifetime best 23.55 to finish 27th.

The 200 free relay was the final event of the evening and the Tigers’ group of Heather Savage and Alex Allen took fifth with a 1:32.44, a NCAA-B time.

In diving, sophomore Brooke George scored for the Tigers on the one-meter as she finished 11th with a 229.25 and fellow sophomore Cassie Self took 18th with a 230.25.

Friday Schedule: Friday the women will compete in a new set of events that include the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, the one-meter diving for the men and the three-meter event for the women. The times will be the same with the prelims starting at 11:00 a.m. for the swimming event and the finals at 7:00 p.m. The men’s diving will be a 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. and the women’s at 2:45 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

The finals can be viewed from theACC.com from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
