Student-Athlete Enrichment Program Re-Organizes

Sept. 22, 2003

Clemson Senior Associate Athletic Director Bill D’Andrea has announced that Phil Grayson will oversee Vickery Hall as Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Welfare and that Bobby Douglas has been appointed to the new position of Director of Academic Services for Student-Athletes.

Grayson, who joined the Clemson Athletics staff on May 1, previously served as an Associate Director of Membership Services for the NCAA since 1999. He has an extensive background in the NCAA waiver processes and with issues related to academic eligibility.

Grayson will handle comprehensive student-athlete issues regarding areas of development such as health, safety, diversity, and leadership. He will serve as a liaison between coaches and the athletic advising staff in addition to overseeing assessment issues and handling personnel-related issues in Vickery Hall.

Douglas, who served as the interim Director of Vickery Hall since August 2002 and has been with the Clemson Athletics Department for twenty-six years, will now oversee all athletic academic affairs including study hall, registration and orientation. He will also be responsible for coordinating academic support for all student-athletes.

“We feel this organizational change will provide us better service by delineating responsibilities and duties,” said D’Andrea. “Bobby Douglas has done a wonderful job in his interim position. Under his direction, we had a record number of teams earn a 3.0 GPA and a record number of student-athletes on the academic honor roll for the 2003 spring semester. We are looking forward to continuing this success in the future.”
