Overview: Talented sophomore who was in the lineup for nine of the 13 team tournaments as a true freshman in 2016-17 and eight of 11 tournaments as a sophomore…set the Clemson single round scoring record at the Wolfpack Spring Open on April 14. 2017 with a second-round 62 that included a school record 12 birdies, including a record seven in a row on holes five through 11…that was tied for the fourth best round in the nation in 2016-17…has career average of 73.95 for his 19 tournaments and 56 rounds…has five top 10s and 18 rounds at par or better…one of two active Tigers with a hole-in-one in competition for Clemson…Nottingham and Doc Redman were two true freshmen who stepped up after the graduation of Stephen Behr and Miller Capps to help Clemson return to the national tournament in 2017… William has played in two NCAA National Tournaments and was a part of Clemson’s No.13 national team finish in 2018…had an outstanding amateur and high school career in Tennessee where he was a two-time Junior Amateur champion…at 6-4, the tallest Clemson golfer on record…won the North-South Amateur in July of 2017, just the second Clemson golfer to win that tournament…named to the All-ACC Academic team as a freshman….has strong record in match play, including winning the 2017 North-South Amateur at Pinehurst.

2017-18: Played in seven of the first eight tournaments this year, six in the Clemson lineup…played as individual in Puerto Rico…had 74.56 stroke average for his 23 rounds…had only one under-par round, but team best five rounds at par…best round of the year was a 70 in second round at Bandon Dunes on March 12…best tournament of the year is 215 at Bandon Dunes, he was two-over-par…did not play from April 14 at the Clemson Invitational until the second round of the NCAA national Tournament at Stillwater on May 26…played in three of the four tournaments in the fall and posted a 73.44 stroke average….did not have a round under par, but had team best five rounds at par…shot solid 220 score for 54 holes at Carpet Classic, he finished with consecutive rounds of 72…finished the fall with three straight even-par rounds of 71 at the Nike Elite…he finished 30th at that national tournament….played two rounds at the NCAA National Tournament at Stillwater when Head Coach Larry Penley took advantage of the new substitution rule….had rounds of 81-79 on the difficult Karsten Creek course….finished the year with 63 birdies and two eagles…his score counted 12 of 20 team rounds…had solid 4.82 stroke average on par five holes, found the fairway 73 percent of his drives and averaged 31.32 putts per round…has 159 birdies and four eagles in his career.

Summer 2017: His outstanding summer included winning the North-South Amateur at Pinehurst #2… finished 21st in the 36-hole qualifier with 148 score, then ran through five consecutive matches to become just the second Clemson golfer to win the North-South Amateur (Philip Mollica 2007)…defeated Ricky Castillo (4&3), Matt Wetterick of Xavier University (4&3), Chris Petefish of Georgia Tech (4&3),and Alex Smalley of Duke (22 holes), then downed James Anstiss (SE Louisiana) 1-up in championship match… finished 41st at Southern Amateur, then finished the summer with seventh place at the Tennessee State Amateur with 285 score…had opening round 67 that led the field.

In 2016-17: First Clemson freshman to finish in the top 10 of the ACC Tournament and the NCAA Regional since current pro Kyle Stanley did it in 2007…had a 71.95 stroke average for his first seven spring events…set Clemson record for best round with a 62 on April 14th….incredible accomplishment in that it was his second round on that Friday…shot a 29 on the front nine, also a Clemson record for nine-hole score, then had a 33 on the back on the par 71 Lonnie Poole Course that is 7,046 yards in length….Clemson record had been 63 prior to that and had been accomplished three times since 1985, including by teammate and classmate Doc Redman earlier in 2016-17…had a record seven consecutive birdies on holes 5-11, and made birdies in eight out of nine holes at one stretch…his 62 included a double bogey on the 16th hole…the 62 tied for the best by an ACC player in 2016-17…. finished very strong, he had three straight top 10s entering the NCAA national tournament…had five top 10 finishes as a true freshman, all in the spring….finished with stroke average of 73.52, fourth best among the starters, but 11th best among freshmen in Clemson history…had 73.09 stroke average in the first round…averaged 4.85 on par five holes…had a hole-in-one at the Palmetto Invitational, just the sixth in Clemson history in competition …his score  counted in 21 of 30 team rounds… had the best score of the day six times…drove the ball in the fairway 75 percent of the time, best on the team…hit greens in regulation .630 of the time and averaged 31.67 putts per round…played in the first three tournaments of the fall …struggled at Carpet Classic with a 231, but showed his capabilities at the Jackrabbit with a 14th place finish to help the Tigers to the team title…had improving rounds of 74-72-70 at The Jackrabbit…third best golfer for the Tigers there, and his score counted every round…his 70 in the final round tied for the team best with Doc Redman, so a pair of true freshmen led the Tigers to the win….also started for the Tigers at the Nike Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club…finished 56th in the strong field, but his score counted twice.

In High School: Two-time winner of the Tennessee State Junior Amateur Championship…won the 2016 title with an 11-under par score of 202 to win by three shots…had rounds of 65-69-68 in gaining the win, he had 12 birdies and one bogey over the three rounds…also won the 2016 Tennessee State Match Play Championship with a 3 & 1 win over Lake Johnson in late July, 2016…ranked 14th nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard as of August 1, 2016…played well at his US Amateur qualifier in West Virginia in late July, he had rounds of 65-69 for an eight under par 134, but missed qualifying by a shot…medalist at Tennessee 3A District Tournament with a 65…runner-up at Joe Cheves Junior Invitational, AJGA Davis Love Junior Open and the TSSAA Class 3A State championship in 2015…qualified for the state high school 3A Tournament all four years he was at Dobyns-Bennett High in Kingsport, Tenn…all-state three years…all-region and all sectional four years…2014 State regional champion…set school records for lowest nine and 18 hole scores…named Co Big 7 Conference Boys Player of the Year in 2015…top ranked junior golfer in Tennessee in 2016…ranked as No. 34 junior in the country on August 1, 2016… son of John and Trish Nottingham…born 12/27/1998…majors in business administration major…
