Overall:  Returning letterman who played in two events as a freshman in 2015-16…third generation Clemson golfer who will challenge for playing time with graduation of Stephen Behr and Miller Capps. …comes to Clemson from the same hometown as former Tiger All-American and current PGA Tour player Ben Martin…grandson of former Clemson captain Jimmy Self.

Fall 2018:  Had a huge impact on Clemson’s co-championship at the Jack Nicklaus Match Play…on October 8, he defeated Grant Engle of Ohio State 4 &3, allowing Clemson to tie the Buckeyes on their home course….then defeated Davis Thompson of Georgia, 1-up…that clinched the Clemson victory in the event and team co-champion…Self and Zach Gordon were the only Tigers to go 2-0 at the Match Play…had a 71.50 stroke average for his two tournaments of stroke play…had a pair of rounds in the 60s and three rounds under par among his six rounds….outstanding on par five holes, he averaged 4.52, 45th best in the nation…had top 25 finish as an individual at the Carpet Classic in the first event of the year, he had rounds of 76-70-72 for a 218 total, +2…then finished 23rd at the Hummingbird with a 211 score on the par 71 course…had second round 68 that was his career low round.

Summer 2017: Finished 23rd at the South Carolina Amateur…had consistent performance with three rounds of 70 and a 74…finished eighth at his South Carolina Amateur qualifier…also played in the Rice Planters and the US Amateur Qualifier.

2016-17  Redshirted the season

Summer 2016:   Played in the Rice Planters, Palmetto Amateur and South Carolina Amateur…finished 40th at Rice Planters with seven over 295, a seond round 80 kept him from a top 25….had rounds of 73-70-72 in the other three outings…finished 63rd with 223 score at Palmetto Amateur…made cut at South Carolina Amateur with 298 score, he finished 35th…had strong final round even par 72.

2015-16:  Starter in the first tournament of the year at the Carpet Classic where he had rounds of  78-81-80 for a 239 score….finished 70th in the field…had one of Clemson’s five eagles in the fall at that tournament and had four birdies….averaged just 28 putts per round at the event….finished 26th at the Clemson Invitational in April, he had a 224 total after rounds of 70-75-79….was in top 10 after his opening round 70..had a 3.0 average on par three holes for his six rounds and 4.89 on par fives…played just six rounds, but had team best tying two eagles…added 15 birdies in his two rounds…averaged just 28.5 putts per round.

Summer 2015: Reached second round of match play at South Carolina Match Play in June…shot 71-73 in stroke play qualifier for a two over par 144….that was 21st best in the field…defeated Jarrett Grimes of Columbia, SC, 4&3 in the first round before losing to Julian Keur of Summerville, 3&2…finished 18th at U.S. Amateur qualifier with scores of 73-72…finished a strong 28th place at the South Carolina Amateur at Chanticleer with a 299 score.

Before Clemson:  Shot a tournament record 62 and won the 2014 Joe Cheves Junior Invitational…ranked 39th in Golfweek rankings for class of 2015, he is second among players from South Carolina…comes to Clemson from Emerald High School in Greenwood where he played for Robin Scott…from same area that sent current PGA Tour player Ben Martin to Clemson…finished 11th at the 2014 AJGA Davis Love Tournament…reached match play of 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur…grandson of former Clemson golf captain Jimmy Self (1964 and 1965)….son of Furman and Kay Self, who both attended Clemson…
