June 23, 2008

During Clemson's spring break, a group of 19 students traveled to Acapulco, Mexico for a slightly different Spring Break 2008. These students spent the week living and working in an orphanage on the edge of the Acapulco Bay area.

Mornings were spent doing a variety of different construction jobs such as chiseling, moving piles of bricks and sifting sand to be made into concrete. Due to a lack of electric tools, all of these jobs were done by hand. In the evenings, the students provided activities for the children including competing in relay races, tie-dying t-shirts and playing soccer.

On the last night, the Clemson students passed out Tiger Rags to all of the children and everyone enjoyed a group photo. The group included members of the IPTAY Collegiate Club, as well as members of the Clemson football team - Tyler Grisham, Thomas Austin and Matthew Knowles.
