South Carolina Upends Clemson on Wednesday in Columbia

COLUMBIA, SC – The 26th-ranked South Carolina women’s tennis team upended 17th-ranked Clemson (7-3), 4-3, on Wednesday at the Carolina Tennis Center in Columbia, SC. The win snapped Clemson’s five-match winning streak over the Gamecocks (5-1). Clemson now holds a 24-23 all-time lead in the series.It was the second match Clemson has lost this season when winning the doubles point. The Tigers had won 25 in a row when taking the doubles point before the last two matches.Clemson won the doubles point, winning matches at flights two and three after dropping and 8-1 decision at flight one. Romy Kölzer won, 8-6 at two doubles, while Romy Kölzer, respectively, who each won in a third set. Ciolkowski is now 14-5 overall, while Kölzer improved to 10-1 in her freshman season.Clemson plays next at No. 8 Georgia on Sunday in Athens, and they play seven of the next eight on the road overall.
