Solid Orange Squad Members Visit Three More Schools

April 30, 2010

The Solid Orange Squad is wrapping up the spring semester and taking a short, but much deserved break until June. On Wednesday, April 28, Lakeside Middle School from Anderson, SC visited the campus of Clemson University. The group of 15 students was honored for their completion of the entire T.I.G.E.R.! Talk program. Lakeside students were able to tour campus and have lunch with their Clemson student-athlete e-mail buddy, with whom they have communicated throughout the year.

Rowers Melissa Weaver and Vanesa Ewais traveled to Northside Elementary in Seneca, SC on Thursday, April 29 to participate in the school’s spirit week celebration. The student-athletes set up in the cafeteria to talk with students about college and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Members of the 26.2 club were given a special treat, such as media guides, schedule cards, pencils and stickers. These students ran 26.2 miles over the course of several weeks and finished their last two miles that afternoon.

On Friday, April 30, Taylor Hoynacki (rowing), Melissa Weaver (rowing) and Michael Wade (football) gave a motivational speech to the senior class of Easley High School. Hoynacki, Weaver and Wade all shared different high school and college experiences with the students and gave them advice for the future.
