Shanahan and Messana Named All-American Scholars

Clemson, S.C.—Sloan Shanahan and Marisa Messana were both named All-American Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association on Tuesday. It was the second time Shanahan, has been selected and the first time for Messana, who just completed her freshman year.  

Shanahan and Messana both made the President’s List (4.0) for the second semester.  Messana made a 4.0 for the entire year.

Shanahan, a finance major, had the second best stroke average on the Clemson team in 2014-15 with a 76.22 figure. She missed three tournaments due to injury, but still had Clemson’s best score of the day seven times and had the best final round scoring average on the team at 74.8.

Messana, a communications studies major, finished with a 76.33 scoring average, third on the Clemson team, but she was the top Tiger at the ACC Tournament with a 219 score, good enough for a 21st place finish.    The freshman, who was also named to the Academic All-ACC team, led the team in birdies with 53 and her score counted in 24 of 27 rounds, tied for the best on the team.
