Feb. 4, 2011

Clemson, SC- Clemson’s Brad Scott has been named one of the top 25 recruiters in college football by 247sports. Earlier this week, Scott signed five -star recruits Sammy Watkins (Fort Myers) and Mike Bellamy (Punta Gorda), in addition to local highly regarded players Shaq Anthony (Piedmont, SC) and DeShawn Williams (Central, SC).

He also recruited 2010 five-star receiver Martavis Bryant, who will enter Clemson in the summer after spending the 2010 season at a prep school. Watkins was ranked as Clemson’s top signee by 247sports as he is ranked as the ninth best overall player in the nation by that service. Bellamy is ranked as high as the 25th best overall player in the nation by Rivals.com.

Scott announced his retirement as a coach on Wednesday. He will continue to work in the Clemson athletic department in administration.

Scott’s signees are a big reason Clemson is ranked in the top 10 in the nation in recruiting according to most services.

Scott worked for 12 years as an assistant coach at Clemson (1999-2010). He had a long career as an outstanding coach, including the recruiting area. When he was the recruiting coordinator at Florida State between 1989-93, the Seminoles recruited future Heisman Trophy winners in consecutive classes, Charlie Ward in 1989 and Chris Weinke in 1990.
