CLEMSON, S.C. –
The Clemson volleyball team defeated Troy (25-21,25-21,25-19)  and North Dakota (25-23,25-18,25-13) to win the annual Big Orange Bash tournament on Saturday. Freshman outside hitter Solei Thomas, the ACC’s Freshman of the Week, was named tournament MVP after averaging 3.90 kills per set, while hitting .312 on the weekend. Additionally, outside hitters Ashtynne Alberts and Brooke Bailey were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Alberts recorded her fourth double-double of the season in the Tigers’ sweep over North Dakota Saturday and average 3.20 kills per set along with 2.50 digs per set for the tournament. Bailey led all Clemson hitters on the weekend, achieving a hitting percentage of .344 while averaging 2.90 kills per set.

Clemson also saw strong performances from freshman setter Gabby Easton, who currently leads the ACC in assists (11.78 per set) and freshman libero Torie Frederick. Easton tallied 34 and 43 assists in the Tigers’ sweeps over Troy and North Dakota Saturday, respectively. For the tournament, Easton averaged 13.30 assists per set. Frederick led the Clemson defensive effort, averaging 3.40 digs per set in the Tigers’ three matches, while junior defensive specialist Emily Curtis tallied a team-best six service aces on the weekend.

Up next, Clemson heads to the Sugar Bowl Collegiate Volleyball Classic in New Orleans, Louisiana Sept. 14-15. There, Clemson is set to face Little Rock, Villanova and Tulane.
