Rowing to Hold ?Team Up for Clemson? Regatta on Saturday

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s rowing team will hold the Team Up for Clemson Regatta on Saturday, October 26, on Lake Hartwell starting at 9:00 AM. The Tigers will partner with amateur teams to raise money for local non-profit organizations in the event, hosted by the Joint City-University Advisory Board.

“We are thrilled to be working with the Joint City-University Advisory Board on this great event,” said Clemson head coach Robbie Tenenbaum. “There are going to be hundreds of people that have never rowed before that are going to be exposed to our great sport. We look to further bring the University and City of Clemson community even closer together while raising some money for local charities.”

Clemson rowers have been working to teach amateur teams from local churches, non-profits, business and university departments and organizations how to row so they can face off in a series of races. Each boat will have six amateurs along with two athletes from the rowing team.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the things that make Clemson distinctive,” said Rick Cotton, City Administrator and event planning chairman. “We have great town-gown relations, a vibrant college town, a major research university, a lakefront location, a championship-caliber women’s rowing team and a lot of competitive spirit. It’s also a great way to enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise and raise money for worthwhile causes.”

Proceeds from the regatta will benefit the women’s rowing team as well as Clemson Community Care, the Clemson Child Development Center, Littlejohn Community Center, the Arts Center, Clemson Area African-American Museum and the Clemson Free Clinic.

The event is open to the public with a suggested entry fee of $1 or two cans of food per person. Concessions will be available for purchase at the event as well.
