Rowing Ranked No. 18 in Final CRCA Poll

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s rowing team finished the 2013 season ranked 18th in the final College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Coaches Poll. The Tigers were ranked in every poll this season.

The Tigers’ final ranking of 18 is the highest final ranking for Clemson since 2011 when they finished the season with a final ranking of 13. Clemson has been ranked in the top 20 in the final poll every season since the CRCA began ranking teams in 2010.

The Tigers faced 10 different teams in 2013 that are ranked in final poll, including top-ranked Ohio State, who won the 2013 NCAA Rowing Championship. Clemson also took on second-ranked Cal, fifth-ranked Virginia, eighth-ranked Yale, ninth-ranked Stanford, 10th-ranked UCLA, 12th-ranked Michigan, 15th-ranked Cornell, 19th-ranked Oklahoma and 20th-ranked Louisville.

Clemson recorded five first-place finishes over ranked opponents in 2013. The highest ranked win of the season came when the Tigers’ 1st Novice 8+ defeated then third-ranked Ohio State in a photo finish on April 20 at the Clemson Invite on Lake Hartwell. Clemson also recorded two first-place finishes each over Stanford and Yale, who were ranked ninth and 10th at the time, respectively.

The Tigers were ranked as high as 14 this season, which they held for three straight weeks from April 10 to April 24 before dropping to 16th on May 1.

Since 2010, Clemson has been ranked in 32 of 35 polls, including 11 straight dating to the final poll of 2012. Virginia is the only ACC school to spend more time in the polls during that stretch with the two-time national champion being ranked in all 35 polls.

The Tigers finished the season with a second-place finish at the ACC Championships before narrowly missing a bid to the NCAA Championships.
