May 24, 2004

Clemson rowing is well-represented in the sixth annual All Region and National Scholar Athlete awards announced by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) on Monday. Junior Mary Nell Green was selected to the First Team All-South Region as well as National Scholar-Athlete after compiling a 3.87 GPA in Psychology.

Green’s selection to as a CRCA National Scholar Athlete was her second straight and her appointment to All-Region team comes one year after she received Second Team honors from CRCA. Clemson rowers have now been named to the CRCA All-Region team 12 times in school history.

Four other Tigers were named 2004 National Scholar Athletes. Junior Sarah Canterbury from Moon Township, PA, led the way with a 3.96 GPA in Industrial Engineering followed by sophomore Jacyln Rath and her 3.90 GPA in Psychology.

Junior Ashlee Brown was named to the team for earning a 3.76 in Animal/Veterinary Science and senior Lizzie Noll made the team with a 3.63 in graphic communications. This marks the second straight year that Clemson has had five rowers named CRCA National Scholar Athletes.

“I am pleased at the recognition these student-athletes have received from CRCA. It speaks volumes as to the level of student-athlete Clemson Rowing attracts,” said head coach Susie Lueck. “Their commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics is outstanding. All five student-athletes contributed at the highest level possible for a student-athlete. They are true team players in both the classroom and on the water.”
