HARRISONBURG, Va. – Winchester’s Robert Rohrbaugh (Clemson rising sophomore) has been named Valley League Pitcher of the Week. The award is given based on games played July 7-12.
Rohrbaugh tossed a one-hit gem in his only start of the week for the Royals, a 6-0 win over Staunton. The only hit off the Royals’ left-hander came with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Royals’ left-hander was perfect through 4 1/3 innings before issuing a walk to the Braves’ designated hitter George Hanger, who was quickly erased when the next hitter, Trevor Lawhorn, grounded into a double play.
After hitting center fielder Worth Scott to start the seventh, Rohrbaugh struck out catcher Erick San Pedro before Gaby Sanchez singled to left field and broke up Rohrbaugh’s no-hit bid. After the Sanchez single, Rohrbaugh retired the final eight Braves to complete the shutout.
Rohrbaugh struck out seven in earning his first win of the season. In four starts, Rohrbaugh is 1-1 with a 1.86 ERA in 29 innings.
